BMW admits quality problems

Berserker, here is something for you if you think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence.....

That deal with the immobilizer ring has been pissing a lot of folks off.

How are BMW dealers to deal with as compared to dealing with Harley dealers, Don?

My experience is that when I take the bike in for routine service they hook it up to their computer and run the vin and check for anything like this immobilizer ring or whatever else it may be. If something turns up and they have the part on hand, they replace it. Otherwise they may have you come back in when the get the part.

Just had the rear shock on my GT replaced under warranty. I was going to write the up in a different post so folks can hear about the other side.

It was all good, just a pain in the ass because of the "technology" etc. in use.

So far I can't complain about the treatment I have received or the quality of the service.

Will read the article when I get back. Though key word, is BMW is admitting to it. HD will produce the same thing for years.

How are BMWs for doing your own work? I have heard you need to bring them in for the ABS, anything else? A problem with BMWs is lack of dealers

Must be pretty bad for them to admit a problem. Germans are that way. Cars, bikes either way there's no problem.

Must be using old VW fuel pump relays. After about 40 K miles the relay would de-soldier itself from the circuit board, one day I asked a big wig from VW why don't you come out with a better relay? His answer was "it's not their problem as the relay was failing after the warranty was over". Nice
