Deck will be 3/4 ply of 1/16 aluminum step plate.

Worked about an hour today, got the frame painted, the tongue squared, stand installed, hub and wheel on, fender on. Getting there. Maybe tomorrow Ill get it rolling.

Dave;

If you've never towed behind the bike, I'll offer the following.

From the pic, that looks like a good sized cooler. Normal rule for balancing a trailer is 10% of the weight should be on the hitch. Once you get it loaded, you should check how the load is balanced. If that cooler is heavy with food/drink and Ice, you may need to pack the heavier stuff towards the rear of the trailer to get it balanced so it doesn't waggle going down the road.

Looking good by the way.

Gonna pic up a fish scale at Pro Bass shop for setting tongue weight, finished the trailer should be about 140 lbs with a max of 100l-125 bs of camp gear. Most of the camp stuff I have is bulky, not heavy. The trailer was rated for 870 lbs before I pulled out the overload springs for less bounce with low weight. Im sure I will need to experiment with the best weight distribution/ride.

Maybe the heavy cooler should be at the rear(or on top of the axle) and the bulky cargo box forward? That way you would balance a little better. Using it like that might mean that you would have to use ballast for proper weight distribution.

dont really know about this, but a guy that has done a lot of traveling with a trailer behind a bike told me always use a swivel coupler...probly out west it's needed...
if the wind catches the trailer, and flips it, doesnt take the bike over with it...

heres an example:
http://www.dmcsidecars.com/Mountingh...na/Swivel2.JPG

bet i could make one for alot less...

jus sayin'...

I've researched that and am undecided. There are those that swear by them and those that swear at them. From what I understand the only time they really help is if the bike falls over. I also have heard that they introduce instability in the trailer. I just dont know yet at this point.

Spent 20 minutes last night on the drill press and chop saw, installed a rear cross brace, worked out so good I am gonna install another just back of center. I spent more time drinking beer and looking at it thinking how to mount some fuel cans than working.

Update

Got the fenders paint wet sanded and rubbed out, got the LED lights mounted, got the rear crossmember fabricated and installed, got the PVC storage tubes built and installed under the chassis. Ill mess with it again next week some, still need to install the deck and safari rack, spare tire and cover and possibly some 1.5 liter fuel bottles in some form of PVC container. We will see.

Im gonna stencil on the side of the tubes, "Remove pins before firing"
