Uncle Mega's Random Group Riding Notes

3. We generally ride staggered (or single file when things get a little tight).
That being said, please always bear in mind that even when riding staggered, the rider owns the entire lane, line to line. No portion of your bike should be next to the rider in front of you, ever, unless you have been invited up by that rider. The entire lane belongs to him/her to set up for curves, avoid hazards, etc.

J. Swerve when possible for a road hazard. If you have to brake, fine, but if you can get around it with a swerve you don't compress the group behind you and make their life suck.

R. Be honest with yourself. If you aren't comfortable with (or capable of) blistering speeds through the curves, that's OK. Just don't try to make up for it with bursts of full throttle acceleration the second you exit the curve. It's not safe and it makes everybody else nervous as hell. Close the gap slowly.

14. Read the "Last Rider To a Turn" rule thread in this section. Read it again. People always screw that up.

6: Passing with a group. Bear in mind that you have 4, 5, 6 or more guys who need room to get in front of the vehicle you just passed. Don't pass and then chop the throttle. Stay on it for a bit so they have room to fall back in behind you.
On the rare occasion that the vehicle passed decides to close up the gap and make your life interesting, the last bike to successfully merge back into the lane should allow the rest to merge ahead of him/her. I hate to use the word "blocking" here, but...
And the guys up front need to be aware of what's going on until everybody is back in their lane.

19. If possible, keep your group tight enough that you don't wind up with a cage in the middle of it. That just sucks.

This is a work in progress...
