Using a phone for navigation is still very cutting edge so it might be a few months or more before all of the features are more robust. One drawback to the phone as a GPS is that the maps are not loaded on the phone. If you lose cellular data connectivity in a remote or poor coverage area, the navigation feature won't work correctly.

The Android's with a real GPS receiver and Google Maps work very well. If I wasn't so afraid of getting it wet, and the screen was a little bigger It could replace my GPS for the most part. Then again there's that stretch between Amarillo and Clayton where you just see a dot on a blank background because it can't download the maps

billy from what I read last night it seems as if it caches the maps into the phone so it will continue to work I don't quite understand how they can say that but thats what the google guys are saying?????

I will pack my gps just in case, I also found today in the car that it doesn't multitask very well, if you have navigation going, then put the music player on, it cancels out the nav, you have to put the music on then the nav, I also found the phone screen doesn't go to sleep with the nav on while plugged into the charger which is a good thing. I wonder if any of these issues were addressed in FROYO?

I didn't really use the music player that much so I can't tell you how it conflicts with the navigation feature. Froyo is a big upgrade over 2.1 though and it very well might have been addressed. There is a leaked 2.2 ROM out there for the Incredible right now if you want to check it out

I saw the leaked version but I'm to chicken to root my phone, I got everything to work right from the comfort off my couch, the trick not using the arrow back key but use the home key to toggle between apps, also plugging in headphones 3.5 mm. plug hides the app in the top of the phone

Yah, ask Big Cheese about using your phone for GPS. He used it when we met at Tony Lukes. It took him to the center of downtown, right to City Hall, and the said "End of transmission".
