I don't see the purpose. Good lump charcoal is readily available and there are some very, very good kamodo-style smokers out there for the same or less money. My Big Steel Keg will hold a 215* smoke for 20 hours without having to add fuel. It'll also cook at 850* (the highest I've taken it). And I can use it when the power's out.
Smoking really seems to be a case of simpler is betterer.

Agree with Russ. I love my Primo Oval for all the reasons he mentioned plus some extra flexibility. There's a reason they call them Traegar Trash.

Liking the Kamodo style myself..... Sirloins last night, super searing hot and 3 min per side and brisket today started at 5am! I agree with Russ, readily available top quality lump charcoal and I can grill with the fireplace keeping the heat going in the house during a winter storm... I may be cheating with a transfer switch and gennie but it's the intent that counts!
