High Beam Useless

Used the high beams on my 08 FLHT the other night for the first time.It just plain sucked, lousy pattern, but the ground 3 feet in front of the tire were perfect.
It was basicly useless.
The low beam seams great. At worst it's off a little to the left.
Anyone else got the same?

I don't use the high beam much on mine either, dj. I prefer low with the spots on. Although it did need to be adjusted some. I thought it was set low as delivered. One day I want to upgrade to HIDs like Big Tom. I saw his in ES and it is BRIGHT.

Adjust your headlight up a little and wire the spots so they can be used on high as well as low.

You old guys need all the light you can get at night.

Tom did it on the cheap. He found parts on eBay and made it work on his bike. HID in the HD catalog is $500+ IIRC.

I went with the Silver Star bulbs (even in my spots, I did had to change them out for the newer ones that have the replaceable bulbs) and they work great. Haven't had a bulb failure and its been over a year since I did it.

Yup... I wouldn't spend no $500 on a frikkin' lightbulb... are you kidding me...

I went this route...

http://www.doofclenas.com/8-Ball/Passing_Lamp_Mod.html

Kuryakyn makes some very nice MR16 lights that can be mounted just about anywhere... I may be adding another set...

I'd like to wire my passing lights so that they work with high and low.... any tips on this anyone?

oh... and yes, the high beam is worthless...

Ya the high beams don't seem to do alot. Double check the adjsutment though. 25 feet from wall, mark about center off light, with you sitting on bike.

I got 100/110 in my FLHR will probably put one of those in.

Gonna wire the spots to stay on all the time, just keep forgetting. I got that on the 01 too.

Looking for a brigther spot, I got 55w on the 01, but that is a differant plug.

What are you running in the Headlight?
I like what you did the the passing lights.
Don't forget to check the load on the electrical system before going to the higher Wattage bulbs. ( Watts \ Volts = Amps, 20 watts \ 12 volts = 1.667 amps)

Its been written up at least a couple of times I remember. I think it was down the street. I may have a wiring diagram at home. Logically, it seems like just wiring around (instead of through) the high/low beam switch.

Obvoiusly more load on the electrical system, but I don't think anything to worry about on a Road King. Ultra may have to worry because of more electrical draw from all the electrical gadgets.
