Heading to Sturgis Tomorrow

Other plans fell thru so throwing my gear on the bike in the morning (Saturday the 9th) and zipping up to Sturgis. Only an 8 hr ride. I called some places and they told me most areas are already significantly cleared out so shouldn't have a problem finding a spot to throw the tent Saturday afternoon. Should get there around 1/2 pm.

Any recommendations? Someplace near town that will take a 1 night tent stay?

Have a safe trip! You might want to give Lamphere Ranch Campground a call but there will likely be tons of places willing to take a 1-2 day camper on the final weekend of the rally.

It's tempting... but I really -hate- being sleepy on the bike (the ride home would be rough after an all nighter!).

Lamphere looks like a good idea. Can party a good while (Full Throttle nearby) and not have to ride to get back to camp. I'll give it a try and report how it goes Sunday night. I was looking at that Shady Branch campground (something like that) but it isn't walking distance from anything.

The Full Throttle is one of our favorite places to party in Sturgis

Made it back last night around 6pm -- ate dinner, went to sleep. I must be wimping out in my old age.

-Fantastic- ride.

Sturgis was rather boring; nothing going on really. I think the place was 90% emptied out. Went to Full Throttle Saturday night and it was mostly empty too. The food there is really awful by the way. Get some good eats from the vendors in Sturgis - lot's of good stuff to eat in town. Had a great sausage and lemonade for late lunch when I got into town Saturday.

Stayed at Lamphere - it's a good place to camp. Pics attached (maybe in a little while since I may have to resize them). Lamphere serves up a fantastic breakfast. If their dinner is just as good it's a great place to eat. Didn't get any great photos since I wasn't there long (yeah I know all you want to see ). Just a great ride in to and from some beautiful country.

Enjoyed hanging out in Deadwood - found a nice tobacco shop/bar that also had a blues band coming in later in the evening. Enjoyed a nice cigar (vices are catching up to me) and a beer - couldn't get -too- relaxed since I was riding. Would have liked to stay for the blues band.

Rode Spearfish Canyon when I left Deadwood. Haven't been up there in a while -- don't remember the speed limit being 35 on the entire thing. It's a fun ride at 55-60.... so I guess it's a good thing some cage got in front of me before I blew by all the cops. Nice scenic putt though.

The Full Throttle seems like a good place to party but they need 2 things: 1) decent food and 2) music not ear busting loud. To get someplace where your head didn't feel like it'd explode from the loud music I had to essentially leave -- all the way by the side gate. I guess I'm just too old or somethin'... but ears and head hurting pain from loud isn't fun

Scouted things out for next year when I should be able to stay several days. Will probably be able to find a fun place to hang out that won't explode my skull with loudness!
