Sorry, seems like a kluge to me. There's little real elegance in what I see as a scab-on design. I think they could have found multiple ways to hide the heat exchanger someplace that didn't demand one retain the lowers.

I'm all for water cooling. Since the exhaust valve is typically the hottest part of the engine, and since the cooling loop runs right around the exhaust port, it should help keep things much cooler.
Wonder how long before the cylinders get a water jacket, along with the whole head being water cooled?

Wonder if that coolant "passage tube" is part of the head casting or just looped in and around that area?

Cannot agree with this.
Totally different engine. I'm not convinced a Revolution based touring engine would wet anyone's whistle. At that point, why not go right for the current water cooled competition. HD has to tread lightly here and introduce this slowly, so as to not alienate the masses. Baby steps.

Those water cooled heads are advanced aviation technology trickled down from WWII radial engines. I can't remember if it worked for those or not.

I know of no radials that were water-cooled. They did use water injection in the intake to create more power at a war emergency power setting.

With a cam change they do.
Really wish they'd either gone Revolution or oil-cooled.
