Group Riding

In the wake of that terrible crash down in South CA.

How many think if there were enough in the group for some to stay and tend the fallen riders and some break away and follow / chase the bad guy, think they could do chase duty. And try to attract the attention of a LEO to go chase the vehicle that did the crash.

I've been at some bike crash scenes and it is a real bad time for the friends of the down rider.

This is a rough thing to discuss.

Agreed, but it happened so fast nobody had time to think other than about their downed friends

In my opinion the only reason to catch the guy would be to Rat Pack his ass.
I'm betting he was uninsured and the courts would do nothing about it anyway !

How/who decides who stays and who goes. First instinct is to stay and render aid. And, if you do go after the SOB, how do you control the emotions and adrenaline so you don't end up down as well. Definitely not an easy one to decide or deal with.

It would be tempting to jump on and haul ass after the guy that just caused the death of your close friends. It also might be the dumbest heat-of-the-moment thing you could do. Who can be emotionally detached enough to SAFELY run a hundred mph and not have their mind clouded by the weight of what happened? Could you be sure...SURE that the car you caught up to was the right car? I mean before you go all medieval on his ass? With those caveats stated...

I remember a little deal in Corpus where several of us went chasing.

With that many down and injured, if CPR and other rescue operations were started, it could have taken every available person at the scene until more help arrived. You figure there were many more injuries then just the fatalities, then 2 people per fatality if possible performing CPR, and others tending the injured, don't know how many people would have been left to go chase. You always help the victims first.

You also have to figure that even some of the non-injured would have been losing their minds and would have been no help what so ever. There are never enough people at a large accident scene like this when it first happens. At least not enough who can actually provide help.

My instinct says chase him down, but old age has taught me that someone else could get killed doing it, I chased a guy pretty much most of the LIE, almost got him and an innocent bystander killed, just not worth it.

If I thought to chase anyone down, it would be to get a license plate number, but my first instincts are to care for the fallen.

I'm of two minds here. I agree with Tad, go get the bastage.
I also agree with Kieth and Margarita, stay and help.

Could compromise: stay with the fallen and send the biggest meanest guy or gal in the bunch after the perpetrator's license number.

Immediate help first and foremost.

CPR is taxing. More is always better when it comes to help. I think you just have to let them go.

Unless there is a lot of spare people. Then someone or 5 can go.

(My personal CPR score is 50% success rate) #2 is upstairs playing X Box.
