New Speakers
just ordered a set of these.
Have been wanting to upgrade to a set of Hogtunes or similar, searched around Crutchfields and found these three pairs... then got to searching on google for each speaker and settled on these. don't know how much better they will sound than stock but got to be better. If they sound good will probably do rear speakers next.

Do those have any sort of cross-over built in?
Edit: Nebbermind--saw the capacitor on one of the pics at Crutchfields.

yea they do I guess. I'm pretty much clueless on speakers though... guess the crossover is a good thing? we'll see. Figured for about $60 shipped they would be worth a try. They look tall front to back, hope they fit in fairing. it says top mount depth 2 5/16" sounds like that should fit to me if thats the hight of the total speaker. Guess I'll find out in a few days.

Speakers of different sizes are optimized to produce sounds of different wavelengths, e.g. woofers = bass = low freq = long wavelength. You don't want bass going to a tweeter because the dome is too small to accurately produce the wave, so you get distortion--the opposite is true with high freqs to a woofer.
A capacitor or inductor (or maybe both) of the proper value inserted in line with a speaker will keep frequencies you don't want produced there from getting to them.

ok I see, keeps the lows where they belong and the highs where they belong. Well just hope they fit... guess I should have went out and popped off outer fairing and tried to measure first but didn't. The magnets don't look any bigger than Pez's Hogtunes I don't think. Gotta be better than stock is all I know.

I didn't pay a whole lot of attention when I had mine off the other week, but I believe there's a good deal of room to work with.

cool, glad to hear that... if they EVER make it here... got the UPS shipping notification yesterday afternoon... aparently UPS has a slower cheaper method of shipping .... wagon train .... I know everyone thought we were past those antiquated methods but I guess not... from Florida to TX 5 days .... man that seems slow to me. I guess I'm just in to big a hurry for stuff.

yea sorry, forgot I was going to come back here and report on them.
7. the pictures of the speakers are apparently of type that most men might want to take of their "member" it made the magnets look much larger than they are. They have much bigger magnets than the stock speakers without a doubt just not as big as they look in the pictures. What does this mean? I don't know I just think that bigger magnets are better, used to be one thing I always looked at on the old 6X9's in my cars when a teen... big magnets meant loud 7. The foam around the outer edge of the cone that connects it to the speaker housing didn't fit "inside" the mount on the fairing... if you look at the picture you can see it is maybe 1/8" to 1/4" higher than the 4 screw mounts around the speaker... when the speaker mounts in the stock hole from the back the foam hits the inside diameter of the bracket speaker fits in. That make sense? hard to explain with out a pic and I was in to big a hurry to hear them to take pics. sorry my bad there. 7. They sound WAY better than stock. Especially mid and high range. Crank it up and hit it with some bass and ... yea not so great. Keep the bass down below the middle of the adjustment scale and they sound really good. If you need that big THUMPING bass look elsewhere... then again I don't know how much bass you could get out of any 5.25" speaker. 7.Other than the foam around the cone getting trapped between speaker and mount the install was a snap. 7. How do these compare to HogTunes? I wish I knew... they sound better can hear stereo much better on the highway over my Hooker Tuned Flows so thats good. 7. Overall I am pleased with them, I hope they will hold up to the weather ok... they are not marine speakers so who knows they may not last a year... if they don't then next year maybe I'll spring for the Hogtunes... if after a year they still sound good I will probably go with another pair of the same for the rear.
