not saying ya can't do it if you 'don't really want to'
however, in my life experiences I've found that I've had very little success accomplishing things that I had no intrinsic desire to do. Best of luck to you. Perhaps you can find a way inside you to come to terms with it in a different light. And discover that you REALLY DO WANT to quit Again, Best of Luck, be strong with the urge hits you. Take the attitude that you are doing something that you 'CHOOSE' do not, not something that you 'HAVE TO DO' Always consider it a 'CHOICE', not that you are being 'Denied Something. Your outlook and attitude will carry you to success !!

I only read the first post, but physical withdraw is over after the first 72-96 hours. Then it's habit, and that habit is strong. I celebrated a year on Nov 17 after 33 of smoking. I bummed about 12 "social" ciggys last year (down from 10,950), and am going for zero this year.
Don't think because it was easy this time it will be easy next time.

I quit last year also after 30+ years and am happy that I did. Now when I walk by people that do smoke, I notice that they stink! And young lady, look at woman that were smoking for a long time, specially chain smoking...they all have fine wrinkles around their mouth from sucking on the cigarettes. Just ugly.
Not me thou...I was lucky and not chain smoking. And think about the money you safe. You can have a nice tropical vacation every year from it. Good luck to you, and stay strong. I regret that I even started.

Just wanted to say good luck with this. My brother gave 'em up after close to twenty years worth last year. He struggled quite a bit but is now free of the habit. He took up walking to take the edge off when his job or etc. got him stressed. To make things harder, he gave up a Mt. Dew habit the same time!
I work with several guys who still smoke, some of them quite a bit younger than me. I can outwork them just because their breathing becomes difficult after a short time. Speaking from hearsay, you should feel better and move easier without 'em. Wishing the best for you. |

It has been 23 days since I quit smoking. Started when I was 14 or 15.
I'm wearing the patch to help me quit. I guess it has lessened the withdrawals and I've had to mentally working on breaking the habit. Big motivator for me was going to the doc ~26 days ago and her telling me that I have developed asthma. Didn't seem to make sense to keep smoking when I could not breathe. Various shades of green, yellow, browns and black after ya quit...ya know what I mean? I WISH I would have quit when I was 18 y.o. |

I had quit for 15 years then started again when some family stuff happened, smoked on and for for 7 years, quit again last october 28th, I am never going to smoke again!!
good luck, once you break some of the habits it gets easier, like getting in the car, or morning coffee, after a meal, before a meal.

I quit 30 years ago. I never could stand the smell, but I still want one every morning with coffee.

Smart decision, the BH and I quit five years ago. After over 35 years of smoking for both of us it wasn't easy but we did it. While the actual physical withdrawal from nicotine is over in a few days, the longer you wait to do it, the harder it is to break the mental and physical habit.
Good luck!
