From DeAnna: Got to the hospital about 4:30 or so. Dad looks peaceful right now. The pressure in his head is nice and low.

From DeAnna: The trauma PA just came in to check Dad. They turned off his sedation and are going to try to get some responses today. So we'll wait and see. Positive and healing energy for him please.

Also from DeAnna via FB: Turned the sedation meds back on. Dad's been fighting with his ventilator quite a bit and keeps trying to reach to pull out the tubes. They're about to start another round of liquid nutrition, and are talking about trying surgery tomorrow.

From DeAnna's fb page-

Quote:
Dad's holding steady now. They're talking about possibly doing surgery on his pelvis tomorrow, but as I understand it, that's still a "wait-and-see" kind of thing. When they turned off his sedation today, he was able to follow some commands. He squeezed both hands and moved the toes on one of his feet, so that's encouraging. Because he wasn't as sedated, he started trying to cough more and was getting a bit agitated at all of the tubes in this throat, and he was reaching for them. They've done more lung suctioning to reduce his urge to cough (which he can't do), and they've turned up his sedation again (it's not super high, but enough so that he isn't fighting his vent all the time.)

From DeAnna's facebook page-

Quote:
Definitely no surgery today for Dad. Yesterday, the pressure in his head was low and stable for most of the day. When they turned him at 5, his ICP went up too high, and it didn't want to come back down. They started some meds to bring it down. This morning, it's still a bit high (13 mm Hg), but not over the danger point of 20 mm Hg. They may have to take some more extensive steps to bring that pressure down and relieve the swelling in the brain, but we're still waiting and watching at this point. He needs all of the positive and healing energy that he can get.

From DeAnna's facebook page-

Quote:
At the hospital. They just changed Dad's vent to one with a heated circuit and a bag of saline. This is to increase the humidity in his lungs and help him not to try to cough so much. When I got here about 3, the pressure in his head was nice and low. I'm not sure what all they've got him on right now, but the 7% sodium they used last night to bring it down is not running right now, so that's a good sign. Dad's CPPs are up above 60, and that is a good thing, but he's got a little bit of a fever right now, so they're working to bring that back down. So, in a nutshell, not the best situation, but not the worst.

From DeAnna: Looks like the cooling blanket will be going back on Dad here shortly. He's running a fever, and we don't need that too. They just turned him a little bit, and they'll be changing the dressings on his legs soon.

From DeAnna last night: ICP at 18, temp at 101.4. The meds and cooling blanket are working away and doing a decent job.

From this morning: Dad's had a pretty calm night. His temperature is down to 99.1, and his other stats don't look too bad. Hopefully he'll have a calm, quiet, restful day today.

Just returned from hospital, Richard is resting well. The doctors are hoping to reduce Luke's meds to allow him to wake up. Keep your prayers coming and let's hope the girls have good news tonight.

The latest from DeAnna........

Quote:
The trauma PA just came in and said they're going to start weaning him off two of his medications in an effort to SLOWLY begin the wake-up process. He's been doing really good today and last night, so we'll see how it goes this afternoon and evening.

Still praying here.

From DeAnna last evening.

Just talked to Kim and she said Dad is holding steady. So basically, no changes. Not super great news, but not terrible news. Let's hope for another calm and stable night for him.

Praying hard here.

From DeAnna's facebook this morning:

Quote:
Almost had a green light for pelvic surgery this morning for Dad, but the anesthesiologist called it off. They want him off some of his medications a little more before they do it (to make sure he's safe during surgery). So it looks like he'll have pelvic surgery tomorrow or the next day. They cut his pressors by half overnight, and haven't had to treat for the pressure in his head because it's staying in the safe range. Dad had a really good night and responded really well to the reductions in his meds, so hopefully another good day of reducing the meds and he'll be ready for surgery tomorrow. Positive energy for him.
still praying.

More news from DeAnna's FB page....

Quote:
Just got to the hospital. Dad's holding steady and doing good. The pressure in his head is at 10, so that's pretty awesome. He's snoozing away over in the bed. They just changed out his vent for a fresh one, and he had a good cough and they got a lot of junk out of his lungs. He's been a champ these past two days or so. He's been tolerating reductions in the various meds really well, he's resting well, his numbers have looked really good. Surgery definitely won't be tomorrow, but maybe later this week. So keep that positive and healing energy coming his way and keep him on this good trend.
Prayers continue for our friend.
