Going Backwards…..

But not really, good Lord a quality flinter is something else! Screw trying to find #11 caps or primers of any kind for that matter. Took over a year to build and a tip of the hat to TVM. The non period correct sling is my doing, not period correct but handiness over all…..

Once I went down the rabbit hole, I was very pleasantly impressed! This .54 spits a patched 230gr round ball right at 1800+ FPS with a MOA group at 75 yards! Swamped barrel makes the thing so skinny and handy. Our forefathers may have been dialed in on an issue or two.

Launching a round with the action upside down always draws conversations…….

Wow!

That looks awesome Dirk! And the coolness factor is off the charts!

Is that what I heard coming from the south the other day?

Thank Y’all for the kind words, much appreciated! Funny, like most folks here, we have a pretty good selection of stuff that goes “bang” but getting proficient with a BP Flinter and enjoying the craft is the most satisfying firearm activity for me at the moment.

How fast you can reload one with practice and make totally reliable makes me tip my hat to our forefathers that didn’t have our modern advantages, they where something else.

So happy that we fell down the rabbit hole and landed in Texas!

Does this one use paper "cartridges", and do you roll your own if so?

That is a skill set I'd like to see / learn.

Saw that also, but IIRC sometimes they would prepare "cartridges" for a planned hunt.

Whole other commitment/skill level, I do know some folks that do it for C&B revolvers but oh my even for a revolver it is skill and artistic touch combined IMHO……

So I cheat, pre-measured main charges, pan powder in the brass dispenser on the left side of the possibles bag and the wooden “speed block” lol. You can get 6 shots off in pretty surprising time with a bit of practice and then it is time for a quick pass with the fouling scraper.

I have quite a stash of Goex and Fuller flints, a couple lifetimes worth just in case lol…..

Nice to know there are modern alternatives to the paper cartridge.
