Taking down payments

Indian Motorcycle company is taking down payments on 2008 Chiefs built with the Powerplus motor.

They are also having a slogan contest --- but don't waste your time since I probably already won it.

Reserve your 2009 Indian Chief at www.indianmotorcycle.com

Indian has enlisted industry-leading experts to develop a world class product that fulfills the promise of the Indian brand. We are creating worthy successors to the legendary motorcycles that captured the world’s imagination. We are doing it with the same commitment to performance, handcrafted quality and advanced technology that has made Indian a world-renowned name for 106 years.

Previously, we communicated that the bikes would debut by the end of the 2007 calendar year. As we near that milestone, we have discovered we need more time to deliver a product that will meet our expectations and yours. We are currently aiming at production in the second or third quarter of 2008. Our timing is based on manufacturing a premium quality product. Only when this goal is accomplished will we introduce Indian back into the marketplace.

We ask for your patience as we re-launch America’s First Motorcycle and bring the legend back to the motorcycle industry.

From a friend who used to work at a machine shop that supplied billet parts to Indian, it was that very engine that sunk Indian (along with the many higher ups & VP's of whatever with their big salarys+ a case of too many chiefs & not enough Indians) in the end....

A neighbor had one with the PowerPlus engine. The bike was big. He had ongoing issues with it blowing something several times - I think headgaskets. He also felt it was underpowered. After several gasket episodes, he unloaded the bike.

Didn't the site USED to read "Click here to reserve your 2008 Indian Chief"?

I don't think they'd be getting any of my front money....
