A Sissy bar on a E-glide, part II, the mounting.
Ok, I got the call that the bar is here, and well, it looks great (Well I think it does)
I ran down to the dealer at lunch, and picked it up (Mounted it in the parking lot I did.) and made it back in record time. I had to work until 6, so I ran home to get my camera and tried to get a couple shots before the sun went down, It was close, and because of the low light, they came out a bit grainy, I will try to get a few better shots tomorrow.....if the weather corporates. Yes, you may laugh all you like, but I really love the way it looks.

Hey, that looks pretty cool, Jeffy... is that a standard harley part...?
You gonna put a backrest on that thing? Your gonna need some of the upswept fishtails now and possibly some apes... |

I think you need a low back rest pad to cover the wider part of the sissy bar at the bottom.... small of the back type thing... needs something there...
that and chickie kind of stretched out spread eagle from the pad up with a good strong set of zip ties... |

what did you use to paint the Elite 3 lettering on your tires? How long does it last?

It looks good, but cries for a touch of "retro" to help tie it into the bike a little more. I'm a big fan of doing something a little different so your bike isn't the same old coolie cutter.
I wouldn't put an attached pad on the bar. I think it would confuse the look you have achieved, I'd carry a small pad that your wife can stick between the bar and her back, when she needs it. I had the same style bar on a couple of my bikes, back in the 70's, and never used anything but a rolled up jacket as a pad for passengers.

Thanks. As to back rest, my wife has made it clear she will never ride with me. So this bar is to support my Kuryakyn bag. It's quite tall, and had a built in pad on the straps that hold it on. So I install in sitting on the passenger seat and use it as a backrest.

I think it looks cool. Took a few looks though. I like it the way it is without a backrest but also agree that it needs something more to tie it in. With the lettering on the tires and now the backrest... now you need some fishtails and short wind screen (easy to switch out when you need to).
I also think a low profile saddle would look better as well. When I take my tour pack off, the saddle always looks out of place. |

I have used one of those for touching up real raised white lettering on car tires back when I was into hot rod cars. Never thought of using one to 'create' raised white lettering where the white never existed... looks nice, I may have to do that. They should make them that way. You should send some pics to Dunlop so they can see how nice it looks that way.
