Rat Bagger Grips

Needed new grips fast a while back. I've gotten the more substantial replacements, but want to see how many miles I get out of these...

Some of you will recognize this as my next step in the transition of my '03 Road Glide (you know, the Road Glide is nearly the most popular bike on the forum... ) to a "Rat Bagger" inspired by a pic Big Swede posted a year or so back.

I'll eventually replace the 100th anniversary paint scheme with rhino liner, get black wrapped pipes, black out a bunch of chrome chit, and make other changes to reach that sublimely low maintenance aesthetic of a rat bike. Thus, a "Rat Bagger!"

I'll make the changes over time as things need to be fixed/replaced. Here's the first low budget Mod...

Duct Tape Grips (part # RW-001-43)

This doesn't do the deterioration justice. They were really getting gummy and little bits were coming off in the palms of my gloves at an increasingly significant rate. The other side was worse and even had hole in the rubber -- but I forgot a "before" pic...

And after...

I did that mod on an old bike of mine once... the grips got slicker than greased ex-lax when it got cold or wet, be careful. I switched to skateboard griptape.

Ooooh! That's good advice.

I think I've got some of that deck tape around here somewhere...

You now have 200 MPH grips. I hope the bike can keep up.

Were those the stock 03 anniversary grips? I had a set revert and get sticky too.

I put a set of the barrel-shaped nostalgia grips on the FX and find them to be really comfortable. Of course, duct tape is way more classier and stuff.

Well, I mean, yeah...

I had the same nostalgia barrel grips you're talking about.

I'll eventually go with the aluminum ones below as I black out the bike.
I'm gonna keep the classier ones for a while longer though.
