Which clutch kit to buy?

what is a good replacement kit?

I run a 96" with SE255 cams.

two-up about half of the time, and I plan to pull a trailer.

I can get the HD kit from Jenni for about $140 + shipping
Screamin' Eagle® Performance Clutch Kit
it includes the heavier spring.

or I can get the Barnett carbon fiber kit with extra plate for about $156, but would have to buy the spring separately, thats another 23 bucks..so now we're at about 180 +shipping.

Is the Barnett that much better?

Other suggestions?

Don't have much experience with clutches in the
newer machines, but back when I had my pan,
I would run nothing but a Barnett. Maybe had
something to do with the "positive loss" oil system.

Don't forget that Jenni offers the same great pricing on aftermarket parts as well, so prolly about a wash price wise.

I just have to ask, if you get the barnett clutch pack with the extra plate, why would you need the heavier spring plate?

I had the SE clutch in my Softail, it grabbed nicely but you lose the wave spring and smaller plate which give you most of the "friction zone" so the clutch was really touchy and hard to control in low speed maneuvering. I changed it out for a standard Barnett kit which keeps the smaller plate/wave spring and used the SE kit diaphram spring. This gave me plenty of clutch for my 95"(103hp/107tq) and still had good feel for slow speed stuff. The Barnett kit only ran me 125 bucks though from my local Indy so it's probably not the kit your looking at...

Just run the Barnett extra disk kit with the stock spring and you will be ok. I have been finding that the Barnett spring is not flat and this leeds to a hard to find neutral situation.

This is what I'm running and I ride 2 up, tow a trailer and have been known to twist the throttle a time or two.. No slipping and I've got 111 hp and 117 tq.

Don't use the Barnet spring unless you like a stiff clutch pull.

Thanks again folks. i decided to go a slightly different route for now.

My issue is that since I installed the new cams, the clutch will slip if I jump on the throttle or wind it up around 4500rpm.

But i also wanted to replace the stock compensator. So for now ordered the SE compensator and SE spring from Jenni, we'll see if the spring helps the stock clutch. If not I'll replace the clutch when I get some more money in the piggy bank.

free shipping on orders over $100 until Dec 4th...nice discount from Jenni and free shipping too..
just sayin

It took me forever to figure that out. I could not figure out what I did wrong. Finally went back to a stock setup.

If / when ya go for it, you might look at Energy One extra disk. Got that + SE spring + VPC. works well for me. You likely don't need the VPC. Think the plates and steels were about $115. Ordered straight from E1.
