Transmission retainer ring...

when you pull the transmission cover off, it says to remove the retainer pin in order to get the cable out (I'm changing to braided). I've tried using my snap ring pliers, but they keep slipping off the ring...any suggestions on a new set of pliers (even though these are brand freakin new), or an alternate method?

Yeah, you can't really fudge that ring out of the groove, you have to have something like this. This is the one I have. It works on inside or outside snap rings. It comes with a complete set of heavy duty tips.

What's cool is I found them laying next to the tape measure in the wood shop right before I went out to buy a new set...I forgot that I had a set like that...and yes, they are now my new ring snap ring pliers for this application.

You talking clutch release cover? Maybe practice hand exercises, until you build up strength.

Not sure what the technical name is with out my manual, but when you pull the transmission cover, it's the 2" ring holding the onto the cable that must come off first before the cable will come loose. The snap ring pliers I had are probably good on rings less than 1".

Nice...hand exercises...yeah right.
