Poe
I went to the funeral of Poe Weatherford today. He was an inspiration to me. He was a man's man. He knew how to take a stand on principle. He knew how to love his fellow man even when they were ugly and unlovable. He always had an encouraging word for everyone he met. He knew how to be a Dad--he raised 4 kids, two preachers and two teachers. He knew how to be a husband--he cared for Jane even in his own last days of infirmity. He was a quiet hero who met the Lord while knee-deep in the snows of a Belgian forest during the Battle of the Bulge in 1944. I'll miss him.
Lenton Velpo “Poe” Weatherford 1918 – 2007 Lenton Weatherford, age 88, of Valparaiso, Fla., passed away Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. Mr. Weatherford worked as an educator in Mississippi and in Okaloosa County, and was also a school principal at Edge Elementary School for 20 years. He was a graduate of Mississippi College and he received his master’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1954. He was a dedicated Christian, husband, father, educator and church leader.
