Houston, We have a problem...
the day after I returned from Sturgis, I began to hear some clunking, squealing, grinding noises in my primary. I kinda thought I had heard some of it during the trip, but not too bad... I thought maybe my compensator bolt had come loose, until my engine and battery lights came on.
I think the problem is the alternator...

Was it the screws coming loose in there. Just thinking about stators gives me nightmares. The whole thing looks like something invented by Lucas and Morelli.

Good thing you made it home. Mine did that last year on the way to Cheesa but I didn't get any noise. Just lost my power.

thanks all. The screws came out and destroyed the stator. If you have not changed it or don't know if you have a rivited/welded one, I suggest removing the compensator and clutch and the rotor to look at it. If it has the screws, it wil fail. Tighten them up and tack weld them to the rotor. It will be a lot easier and cheaper than just hoping for the best, trust me on that.
