Need a new postol

OK, my Kahr PM45 is, for me, unholdable.

There is nothing wrong with it, Just my Sarcoidosis riddled hands can't grasp it properly. So, off it goes.

Now, replacements.

I am intriqued by the SIG 930. I would likely go .45 and get a .40 or 9mm conversion too.

I also seem to like the new Spriingfireld Armory XD Mod.2's. Probably .40, maybe 9.

My method of sorting guns, unfired, is simple.

Clear it, hold it, move it around in my hands, point it, relax the inevitable death grip, just kind of become familiar with it, let my hand find its place.

Then, grab the slide with my left hand and twist.

If it moves a lot, move on.

The Springfield's don't want to move, the SIG, a bit.

Any experience or advice?

The sarcoid is a connective tissue disorder that leaves my hands less than nimble and strong, FWIW.

Depends on what you're looking for. The Springfield striker pistols are very, very nice. I carry (when I can) an XDS, but it's tiny. Very good as a close-in carry piece, but my hand is probably too big to repeatably shoot it quickly and accurately. The full-frame XD45 is a beast, and I love it. I have a few Sigs, and they're nice, but the triggers.....You really have to spring for their upgrade in order for it to be a good SHTF pistol.

I hate to preach, but I shoot nothing better than when I'm holding either my Remington R1 Commander or my Springfield Loaded. I can reliably, repeatably shoot a 1911 better than any other firearm I own.

If the new pistola is NOT for personal defense. I suggest you look into some of the .22LR offerings.

Tons of fun. Lighter weight. Cheap to shoot. Still very satisfying to play with.

Last year I was looking for something with a little more 'punch' for concealed carry than my Ruger LCP. As concealment was high on the requirement list I was looking at subcompacts. After looking at several subcompacts (including Kahr, Glock, Sig, Walther) Springfield XD and Smith & Wesson M&P Shield were the two finalists. How each felt in my hand was critical in my choice. Two points ended up putting the M&P in my holster. First, it fit my hand better with better fit and feel of control. Second, the XD is considerably heavier than the M&P and consequently less 'friendly' for a long day of concealed carry. In the end, we each have different reasons for what we chose but it's a choice that's right for us. Good luck with your search.

I like my Smith 642, but the grip is a bit small. A good basic, simple wheelgun. Easy to conceal in a front pocket.

My American Express card.

I love my CZ 75 Compact. It's very accurate. I have large hands and I had a discomfort with the base plate of the magazines. There is a rubber magazine end pad that gives you better command and control.

My two carry pistols are the S&W M&P Shield in 9mm and the Colt Defender in .45

Even later to the convo...

In the past couple years, starting with the degradation of my oilfield career being reduced to Logistics Superintendant, which meant me and usually a young female dispatcher in the office on nights, I began to carry EVERY day, despite the company rules stating no firearms... especially after they started the layoffs.

I started with K-ren's LCP. Light, simple to conceal, and still easier to reach in an emergency than my Kimber 1911 .45 that was at home on the nightstand.

Starting my own business, I switched to my LC9, and got very used to it.

Now I carry an XDs .45, fits my hand well, not a whole lot bigger than the LC9, and I feel naked without it. a QUALITY belt makes a world of difference.
