I take it there aren't many hot air balloon clubs in your state

The wind didn't bother me as much as the signage. (Or lack of).
Sent from someone else's Galaxy S7.

I have ridden WY. I didn't realize just how far apart gas stations are on some routes in central WY. Thankfully, no motorcycle pushing was involved, but we were very concerned for a while...

Tell me about the gasoline stations. My V*rago only has a 100 mile range.
Signage? We don't need no stinkin' signage. The hot air balloon people get up in the air by dawn and down by midmorning in an attempt to avoid the wind. Sometimes it works. It isn't unusual to get 30-40 mph winds with 50-60 mph gusts, especially in the winter. Several years ago, we had a gust that took a 2 x 4 off the barn about 50 yards behind the house and speared it through the back wall of our garage. The anemometer at the airport recorded 75 mph gusts that day and we live at the foot of the mountain in a wind corridor where gusts are usually higher (thus the lost wind sock). Out of curiosity, I looked up average wind speed for Casper. In winter, it is about 15 mph which is higher than 70% of the rest of the country. Right now the wind is 25 mph. Once Roy and I went riding south of Kaycee in a moderate wind- a nice challenge without being scary. Upon crossing through the breaks, we rode into a veritable hurricane. The wind was not only pushing us toward the side of the road, it was doing its best to pick us up and toss us into the ditch. We stopped and angled the bikes into the wind to see if it was just a passing front but after a half hour the wind hadn't slowed up a bit. Got on and rode back through the breaks to where the wind wasn't so bad. That was the only time wind scared me. No idea how strong it was but it pushed me off balance even when I was standing. Given the amount of ballast I carry, that's a pretty good breeze.

They could just put a warning sign at Pine Bluff and one at Evanston and be done with it, right?

This past year, I have crossed the great salt flats without any cross wind...
It was enjoyable, except that time coming back from ES and it was over 100°f for the entire 100 plus miles.
