Corpus Christi Update
Tonya is back home.
She has no electricity so her phone is out in the truck getting charged up. Her plans are a cold shower and a long nap. It's dark in her house but the land lady's son is coming over later to remove the plywood from the windows. I guess he had to go buy a cordless drill and then charge it up first. Lee says there is power already on some parts of the Island, which is a good sign.

Thanks, Dinero. Glad things weren't any worse than they are.

From what I've heard from my friends in Houston, it's a real shitshow there.
Glad everything's okay with T.

Glad that everyone on the coast is ok. Watching the footage of all of the damage in Rockport and Port Aransas along with all of the flooding nightmares in Houston makes me very sad for all of the residents of that area and what they are going through.

Probably the worst flooding ever in the Houston area. It is unreal and the slow moving storm means more rain is on the way. Nobody could anticipate the extent and yet people are complaining that no evacuation order was given.
The entire area from Corpus Christi to Beaumont is devastated and it is still raining. Even here in Central Texas, some 250 miles away, we still have some winds (abating) and rain in the forecast through next Sunday. The huge catchment area will cause flooding to continue for at least another week.

I never thought I would live to see flood damage exceed what Katrina produced. Looks like it only took about 12 years....almost to the day.

Stay safe and as dry as you all can out there.
And backward looking 20/20... I look (glance) at small generators every now and then when shopping. I guess one could buy one and set it in storage, at home, they have that "canned" gasoline, ethanol free, with some kind of stabilizer in it, at home depot / lowes, that has a very long shelf life, years, if left sealed. Comes in plain gas, and different mixes of two cycle blend. Pop some fresh crankcase oil into the engine and a can of the fuel and one could have power intermittently to keep things going. Then there are those portable solar panels for camping, can charge phones, "green" rechargeable batteries, and power some other things from them, I see at Costco, and probably other places/ retailers, from time to time. But all this stuff is attractive for plunders to take from you.

We're waiting to hear from family and friends in Baytown and Corpus. The folks in Houston are damp but so far staying above high water.
