1911 45 Recommendations
Buying one tomorrow or over the weekend. Recommendations? My first choice will be an original Colt 1911A1 if I can find one, but there's so many copies out there right now I gotta admit I'm befuddled.

How much do you want to spend? What are you going to use it for?

Always favored Colt and I'd look for a nice used one. Springfield seems well made. Many like Para Ord and Kimber. Last one I bought was a s&w 1911 PD and it's been a great shooter. Light and good for carry too. Haven't even tried to keep up with all the different ones out there.

For the money, I don't think you can do better than a Springfield "Loaded". But I've been wrong before.

My personal carry is the Kimber Pro CDP II. There are a lot of solid choices out there in the 1911 market though.

I also have a couple of Para's, a Springfield loaded and a Colt National Match (ca. 1960). They all go bang when I want them to. What you get would likely depend on your budget and what you want it for. FWIW, my next purchase will probably be a Colt Lightweight Commander.

Who's come out w/a new edition? Saw the add on T V last week or so.
Looked interesting. It's a popular American brand.

Get a commander or Govt size gun
No full length guide rod--trust me Beaver tail grip safety--paramount for comfort Good iron sights Novak style or Heinie Try to avoid a stainless steel extractor Colt, Springfield, or Kimber would work well. Bob

For a light, small, carry type a Colt New Agent can't be beat.
I do need a commander size.....

I have a Colt National Match
Springfield Loaded S&W target 1911 and a Remington R1 The Remington is the most accurate, and the least expensive. Even the lowly Rock Island Armory is well made these days, and an excellent choice. Because of the 100th Anniversary of the 1911 last year, and the amount of competition for your dollar, ALL of them are very good now. If you choose the wrong one, it can be fixed cheaply, for example, the Para has a crappy extractor made in Korea. It can be replaced cheaply and easily, and then you have a great gun. Parts like beavertail safeties, and match triggers are cheap and easy to do. If you don't know how, I, or someone else will show you how, or do it. My personal opinion is that high dollar editions are a waste of money. A cheap one can be made to perform better than the expensive ones, for a lot less money. With something like the Remington, the good, expensive parts, are all ready there. (Barrel, bushing, sights, and slide to frame fit.)

I just purchased a Ruger SR1911 a couple of months back and could not be happier with the "bang" for the buck.

I'm very happy with my Ruger SR1911. I also have a Kimber with over 20,000 rounds through it with no problems.
