I think I had a good idea. Siphon, or better yet pump out gas. Then put bike on lift, with front tire higher. I may have done this once, or maybe it came to me in a dream. Not sure

Well, the tank is off. And that was NOT a little bit of gas. That was a LOT of gas!!!
But, it's done and nothing is broken that I know of. I guess we'll find out when I put it back later this week! Now lets just hope I can get my hands on the cables I need by Friday... Oh, and Glazier, those quick disconnects are the way to go!!! Thanks y'all for the input, patience and encouragement!!!

Use cardboard under tank like a trough to catch and drain gas to pan. Get an extra hand, pinch off hose at left side to middle of hose with small needle nose vice grips or clamps, pull off line on right side of tank and other person puts finger over tank outlet (you can do this yourself too), have piece of short hose with plug in end and slip over outlet and secure with small clamp. You plug hose with short piece of round pencil, and use small clamp to secure. Remove vice grips, and remove tank. You will have some gas spill but the cardboard will allow it to run in the pan, and not all over the engine. Gas weighs approx. 6.5 lbs. a gallon, plus the weight of the tank, and when you go to pick it off the bike you will be at an angle, so protect your back, and also, when pulling off tank be aware of the of the hose hanging off the left side crossover fitting. Reverse procedure to install. I have never drained the tank to remove, but YMMV.
