This isn't a happy day for us. Our dear old farm collie, Callie, has her last vet visit scheduled for 6:30 this evening. Thank goodness for a veterinarian who makes house calls so she won't have to leave home to begin her journey to the Summerlands. This vet has been taking care of her and our other creatures for close to forty years now. He'll make it as easy as possible for all concerned, but we're all sad to have reached this moment. So many dogs and cats have shared our lives, but it never gets easier to say good-bye. We haven't been a single dog household since the early eighties. Even then that status only lasted a few days before our new dog appeared on the doorstep, wagging her tail and ready to spend many good years with us.
Anyway. That's our day today. Hope yours is much better.

My heart goes out to you and Roy today India. I have had to do the same, and it never gets easier. They are as family as family is to me

Anyone who is blessed with a good dog in their lives knows the day will come when the sorrow of saying goodbye arrives.
The wonderful memories we have, along with the love they gave us, we have to keep forever. My sympathies to all.

It is said that knowing when it is time and following through is the last act of love we can give to our faithful companions. While that may be true, it does not ease the hurt.
