Seriously? Here's the proposal to amend and enact § 18.2-433.2 of the Code of Virginia:

Here's an easy to find exerpt...... 1. Teaches or demonstrates to any other person the use, application, or making of any firearm, explosive, or incendiary device, or technique capable of causing injury or death to persons, knowing or having reason to know or intending that such training will be employed for use in, or in furtherance of, a civil disorder,... Basically, that bill imposes severe penalties on those who knowingly lead or participate in paramilitary training, hence the title Paramilitary activity prohibited; penalty. Self-defense or regular firearms training are not punishable under the proposed bill. I get it, tho. Panicky Republican reacts to a misleading headline published on a right-wing propaganda web site, via a link on his personal Facebook news feed. Happens every single damned day. Right?

To be clear.....the proposed bill is to amend the current code 18.2-433.2 relating to paramilitary activities. Best I can tell the changes are 1, change shall be to is. Strike the word or at the end paragraph 1 and add paragraph 3 in its entirety.
Best I can tell the current code has been in place since 1987 and the proposed amendments don’t appear to me to target activity put forth in the article except for paragraph 3.....a direct response to the bullshit that happened in Charlottesville. Trust me....I don’t trust the extreme left in this state or elsewhere. But I’m equally suspicious of the extreme right. One might believe it’s our right to assemble and march armed in the streets. If that’s the case stick to the point and drop the hype. Firearms instruction, self defense training etc in my view are not at risk. Each of the existing code paragraphs and proposed paragraphs require a civil disorder component. Fred, if you’re going to post an article take the time to do your homework and don’t contribute to the “I read it on the internet so it must be true” Current code 18.2-433.2. Paramilitary activity prohibited. A person shall be guilty of unlawful paramilitary activity, punishable as a Class 5 felony if he: 1. Teaches or demonstrates to any other person the use, application, or making of any firearm, explosive or incendiary device, or technique capable of causing injury or death to persons, knowing or having reason to know or intending that such training will be employed for use in, or in furtherance of, a civil disorder; or 2. Assembles with one or more persons for the purpose of training with, practicing with, or being instructed in the use of any firearm, explosive or incendiary device, or technique capable of causing injury or death to persons, intending to employ such training for use in, or in furtherance of, a civil disorder. Proposed amendment to current code 20101207D SENATE BILL NO. 64 Offered January 8, 2020 Prefiled November 21, 2019 A BILL to amend and reenact § 18.2-433.2 of the Code of Virginia, relating to paramilitary activities; penalty. ---------- Patron-- Lucas ---------- Referred to Committee for Courts of Justice ---------- Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia: 1. That § 18.2-433.2 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows: § 18.2-433.2. Paramilitary activity prohibited; penalty. A person shall be is guilty of unlawful paramilitary activity, punishable as a Class 5 felony if he: 1. Teaches or demonstrates to any other person the use, application, or making of any firearm, explosive, or incendiary device, or technique capable of causing injury or death to persons, knowing or having reason to know or intending that such training will be employed for use in, or in furtherance of, a civil disorder; or 2. Assembles with one or more persons for the purpose of training with, practicing with, or being instructed in the use of any firearm, explosive, or incendiary device, or technique capable of causing injury or death to persons, intending to employ such training for use in, or in furtherance of, a civil disorder; or 3. Assembles with one or more persons with the intent of intimidating any person or group of persons by drilling, parading, or marching with any firearm, any explosive or incendiary device, or any components or combination thereof. 2. That the provisions of this act may result in a net increase in periods of imprisonment or commitment. Pursuant to § 30-19.1:4 of the Code of Virginia, the estimated amount of the necessary appropriation cannot be determined for periods of imprisonment in state adult correctional facilities; therefore, Chapter 854 of the Acts of Assembly of 2019 requires the Virginia Criminal Sentencing Commission to assign a minimum fiscal impact of $50,000. Pursuant to § 30-19.1:4 of the Code of Virginia, the estimated amount of the necessary appropriation cannot be determined for periods of commitment to the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice. |

Thank you all for the correction. I didn't do my usual research. But what about this gun confiscation thing and the rise of gun sanctuary counties? A friend on FB is a cop and he posts articles from cop newsletters, not the usual right-wing scare mags.
