Slick,I dont think your 08 seat would fit the 12,didnt they change the frame in 09.I have been running the sundowner ever since I got the bike and am very pleased with it.But the best change I have ever done was put 578 bars on,575s was still to low.

08 was a bastard year. The upper portion of the frame was redesigned for the 6 gal fuel tank. That portion of the upper frame carries over to present. The 08 seat will fit to 16 and vice versa.

I like my Tallboy,
Moves my big butt back just right. I do have a 37" reach though so I'm long in the legs and arms.

Thanks for all the replies. I expected some amount of personal preference to apply here, what I didn't expect was for it to be all about personal preference.

I thought there would be some consensus around 'Group A = crap' and 'Group B = worth a look'. But not so much.

I also did not expect a discussion of handlebars to come up, but it does make sense in the overall context of comfort. I don't have a problem with my handlebar location (I think) because I don't have any shoulder or neck discomfort while riding. My main complaints are the numb/sore butt and cramps in my hips. I'm pretty sure that is all seat related.

I think I'll start by abusing the Harley demo seat program. At least I'll have some idea of what I'm paying for. If that doesn't work out I'll make educated guesses on where to shell out the cash.

Thanks again.

I had to go with the Harley Comfort Stitch Tallboy to get rid of the hip cramps on my '05. Naturally, they quit making it.

I also had no expectation that the bar would have an effect, but it was actually quite dramatic and obvious after the fact.

It should be noted that you can loosen the clamp and 'roll' your bars a small amount to and fro. Yo might try moving them a bit and see how it affects your comfort.

Calling all smart azzes

As Russ said, seats are weird.

When I got the EG I fully expected to change bars and the seat. Turns out I didn't need to do either.

Both Patti and I were very comfortable out to about 400 miles a day. Any more and we would start to feel it. I purchased an air Hawk for the longer days.

The stock seat started to rip at the buttons and I found a new take off on Craigslist for 50.00.

The thing was brand new. Installed it and Patti asked for the old one after 100 miles. Same damn seat, but not broken in.

We stayed with it and all is good now.

If you want to try The Ultimate Seat they let you try it out and return it if it's not for you. If you do try it, you're looking at how it fits you and not how it feels. Like Warren's seat, it takes about 500 miles to break in and will fit like a glove.

I would do the demo seat program and try one or 7 out. It's free and you can actually get road feel for what you're sitting on.

I have had a Mustang seat in the past. Liked it a lot, but it was firm and after a few hundred miles it was like sitting on concrete.

Harley hammock. Had two of these on different bikes and absolutely loved them both. My passenger not so much. Put her hips in a funny way. She doesn't ride much with me so I kept them.

I haven't felt the need to replace the Rushmore stock Ultra seat on Black Booty. Several Butt Burners on it and I'm fine with it. I think a Hammock would be better, but I won't fix a problem I don't have

The stock seat on the Road King was OK. I replaced it with an air ride cop seat and OH. MY. GOD. Most comfortable seat ever made in the history of mankind. If I could put it in my living room I would. It's that comfortable. It did sit me up what seemed like a few inches higher, but a very comfortable position, nonetheless. Granted, I have apes on the Road King so being a bit higher wasn't a big deal. KenR put one on his Ultra and never looked back. I would think you would need higher bars, but that's a personal preference. Mustang makes a passenger pillion that matches the seat. I'm just not the biggest fan of the looks of it on an Ultra, but I just may switch sometime in the future.

Yep, they do. Pillion upholstery matches the cop seat perfectly. And from all reports, mrs. o finds the pillion to be quite comfortable.

I kept the stock bars on the 'b'. Didn't even adjust 'em. The bar/seat interface is exactly as it was when I bought the bike seven years ago. I'm 5'10", 32" inseam and have no problem flat footing the bike while standing still.

You do sit a little higher, and maybe just a bit more forward with the cop seat.

The riding position is not cramped, however. There's plenty of room to stretch out.

Utopia products makes a matching upholstery adjustable riders backrest, too. Last I checked it was around $230-ish.

Heck, that seat is probably the only thing I have yet to change on that bike.

I demo'd the Harley Tallboy seat today. Left the dealer and headed up the slab to the land of Dr. Bob ultimately ending up at the Winstar casino where I played blackjack for a bit. The Choctaw tribe proceeded to donate $61 towards my seat purchase.

The Tallboy solves 75% of my issues. I also put an adjustable backrest on order with the seat. Installation will happen when the parts come in later in the week. Updates will be provided.
