I am always amazed what "we" used to do to keep cars up and running.
Valve cover gaskets that went over 10 K miles was almost unheard of, oil changes every 1 K, then 3 K miles, auto trans fluid changed every 15 K, if the pan gasket went past 10 K, fuel filters, spark plugs and O2 sensors every 15 K miles. Not to mention cleaning and packing front wheel bearings. ( when I tell young ones about greasing wheel bearings I almost get the same look as when I talk about three on the tree)

And how little has to be done today.
Oil changes 10 K plus miles, engines and other drivetrain components pretty much leak free, coolant changes 100 K plus miles.

When getting ready to move I came across tach/dwell meters, vacuum gauges, flex shaft 1/8" Allen driver for AC/Delco point adjustment, special flex shaft socket drivers for mixture screws on Quadrajets, etc.

Can't make myself toss them because I still believe I will have toys someday that still require that stuff.

What year did Mopar put in EGR "jets" in the floor of the intake manifold, under the carburetor?

A lot less oil slicks at stoplights.

All thanks to the EPA

Yes, that would leave a slick under the car.

I had blow-by so bad in a '54 Chevy, you would have thought it was on fire at stops.

My '66 Plymouth Valiant burned more oil than gas.

And if it wouldn't start, a fresh set of plugs solved the problem.

I went through a lot of spark plugs.......
