Anybody ever heard of someone running STP in a twin cam?

A guy on another forum said that he's used Kendall 60W racing oil and a pint of STP in his motorcycle for years.

I used to use STP in my muscle cars, but I've NEVER run it in a Harley...discuss.

I can remember years back, Dad heating up STP on the stove. Not for Moto's tho. Mom would fuss about it.

Too thick. Not designed for roller bearing engines. It was designed for babbit bearings and racing applications. It was found to boost the viscosity of motor oil, thereby aiding worn engines and helping to reduce oil consumption, but that was actually an accidential find. It wasn't designed for that.

In a twin cam? NEVER!

Used to use it for engine assembly ONLY. It has been known to put nasty deposits on plugs.

STP basically has a very high level of ZDDP anti wear additive. It is zinc and phosphorus to prevent metal to metal contact. Oil has a certain level in them but the EPA has reduced the amount of phosphorus the last several years to prevent Cat converter damage. Racing oils and many of the after market oils already have an elevated level in them because they are not used in automotive street motors, in theory. Most V-twin oils elevate the level for this reason.
Really not necessary if you are running a high quality V-twin oil.
