Memorial Day 2010 - Colorado Ride

4 days - 2000 miles, it was a great trip. Friday and Monday being pretty much an endurance run out through the Oklahoma panhandle..then two days of excellent riding in Colorado and New Mexico.

Saturday we were out early and went north from Raton, NM to Highway 160 and then west over Wolf Creek Pass, that is where we rolled up on the bear that had just went head to head with a Ford Super Duty....continued on over the pass to Pagosa Springs and then North on the Million Dollar highway (550) to Silverton, up over Red Mountain Pass to Montrose and turned back east to Gunnison and then spent the night in Crested Butte. It was about a 500 mile day. Sunday took us south on 149 through Lake City & Creed, hung a right at 160 and went back over Wolf Creek, then south out of Pagosa to New Mexico. Ran across the Rio Grande Gorge and went through Taos, bypassed the Red River Rally and went over to Eagles Nest and then on to Raton, NM for the night for another 500 mile day. We ran up on a fair sized herd of buffalo on US 64 that were hightailing in the opposite direction at sunset, we turned around and caught up with them for a great photo op with the dust cloud and setting sun.
That one picture was worth the whole trip..just sayin..

Was the bear taking a nap in the middle of the road? Or did he meet his unfortunate demise there?

That would be scary road-kill to run across.

Great pics, Denny. I have had the pleasure of riding many of those same roads.
