Coming home, finally...

East Texas folks:

I get to retire in February. We'll be returning to the Piney Woods after being gone way too long. Hopefully I'll be there sometime in February to look at some property in Upshur County.

Anyone know a good, reputable steel building contractor? I'll be looking to put up something like this:

Looking forward to a house warming get-together when we get to that point...

We should only be about 40 miles from TX43 and about 90 to TX7.

Should I plan on an outhouse for the 'Zints?

I've got a couple of Mueller buildings and very happy with them. They have locations all over Texas and can customize any way you want. I'm sure they have a list of approved contractors. That pic you posted looks awesome! I also REALLY like that stove in your avatar.

That's pretty hightech for a redneck, don't cha think Way to make a man envy his neighbor, that's fer certain. That design has been a dream and goal of mine for the last five or six years. Theirs one very similar to this building design on one of my ride routes. After staring at this plan for a while, the only change I would make is to have a roll up door on the side or back. This would allow you/me to get a good start out on the scoot before Moma can get the cross hairs on ya.
All here can appreciate a BFG

it might be ok in Texas, although I have seen big snow across 40 in my truckin days...but I'd never put the garage door where it is in your pic...the snow comin off both roofs would kill ya...you'd at least have to park the tractor/loader right in front of the door to dig your way out...

That pic was more for getting a general quote and motif.

My plan has an 8' and a 16' GD in the two ends and a 16' GD in the middle of the back wall (all 10' high), with a normal door where the one is the pic is. 16' walls in the shop and at least 10' walls in the living quarters.

Ignore all the cars - some are mowers/tractors and 4 wheelers my pickup - the free drawing package I have just has the one 3d car...

Still working on the actual floor plan.

Morton has great insulation...a friend of mine added a 40 x 40 x 16' high addition to his machine shop...heat in the floor...and used a hot water tank to heat it...
another friend has a 50 x 100 x 16 Morton insulated shop with heat in the floor...

Radiant Heat is the way to go, when you need heat. My experience was the heat mass stays closer to the floor where your working and doesn't raise to the roof so much.

I'd need the 14-16' door on the end for the planned RV entrance.
