Network Marketing

I've been in one of these programs. Did well for the time I was in it. But I wanted to go back to school and didn't have the time to invest. The are programs like Amway, Quixtar, Mary Kay, and such.

What do you guys think of these and are you and have you ever been involved in them. And which ones.

I ask this just because I'm watching the Celtics game and noticed they are playing in Amway Arean. I was in Quixtar which is a subset of Amway.

My experience with Amway would involve observation of cult-like twisting of scripture to justify exploitation of people's wishes to do better for themselves. I know it can work, but the questionable tactics promoted by some of the big names turned my stomach.

I got a call one evening from a guy I knew in High School. It had been 15 years since I talked to him. Small talk at first, then into the sales pitch. I was polite at first.

But he was getting very annoying and I had to hang up on him about the time he was asking for phone numbers of friends that might be interested. Amway.

My former neighbors daughter has been with Mary Kay FOREVER and has had one of the pink Caddies every year since the late 80's. She at the top, she harassed Patti for a while.

If your the sales type and don't mind annoying folks, go for it.

A guy I used to work with wanted to get me involved in one.

ONLY $400 to start, and he promised with minimal work, I would make that back in less than 2 weeks.

I told him to pay my $400, I'd work my ass off, and give him $800 back in 30 days.

He wouldn't do it.

I got suckered into 2 or 3 Amway sales pitches. It all didn't set well with me. Kinda smelled shady. Just kept on walkin'.

I echo this resentment as well.

The problem is that the folks you have to annoy are friends and family. To me, it just ain't right to take advantage of a relationship like that by slamming the sales pitch on them. It ain't for me.

I agree about the friends in family. I wasn't sure it would work. So I cold contacted. And did start building a network. I didn't want to alienate myself from my friends and family like some had done in the business. Some would say that their real family were those in business with them. Screw that! It had it's time. Glad I still have my family and friends.

I did Amway when it was brand new. Got signed up, got a "kit" and was told to go sell products. I went door to door. Folded it up after about a month.

MLS can work, but not for me.
