Just Some Thoughts
This may not be the place and this may not be the time but it is on my mind at the moment.
I'm not going to make a big deal about it, and understand I have a drink or two now and again. I have used the definitive rule for years: "The number of drinks cannot exceed the number of wheels." Two beers on a motorcycle and (maybe) four if I'm in the truck. I lost a young friend over the weekend to alcohol and speed. He didn't live long enough to learn some of the lessons. It happens. Rick (Gordito) almost bought the farm due to a drunk driver. They got my attention. Many of us here have made the concious choice to never have an alcoholic drink of any kind. I am not proposing that for anyone here and those that have, have my utmost respect. Looking back at Junction, and several other of the gatherings, I recall that some of us (me included) have "gone to dinner" or whatever, after the drinking starts. I would like to propose that we start watching out for each other a little bit better. Once the libations flow, everyone should be in for the night. I, for one, will give up my keys if asked for them. That is my pledge. I would like to think that anyone here will do the same if asked. I am not trying to moralize or preach. I (we all) have lost too many friends for various reasons and any reason we can eliminate means we are headed in the right direction. Sorry. It was on my mind.

I rarely drink anymore, and if I do, I never drive. I'm with you on this, Jim.

Excellent post, Jim. I agree with every bit...but since I am a non-drinker perhaps I'm speaking out of school.
I hang around often at shooting events that feature shotgunning all day long. The rule at every event (and the general practice) is that after your scheduled shoot you can join the revelers at the pavilion but once you pick up a beer, you're not to pick up a gun for the rest of the event.

Count me in. Iffen we stop a road trip for a cold one, I tend to stay with 1 real pop and then switch to N. A. I prefer Odouls Amber by the way. Once we park for the night, I tend to get relaxed.

Good call Bro! We can make bad decisions in the moment. Better to have a group agreement ahead of time so we don't make them. I know at a very young age I once got fall down drunk and woke up in my bed the next morning not knowing how I got there. I was lucky.
Thanks for the lookin' out. I'm in!

My idea of a drink is about a tablespoon of whiskey nursed over the course of several hours. I have no problem sticking with diet Dr. Pepper and am prepared to join the list of designated drivers at any given event.
No more alcohol related deaths and injuries is a good goal.

While I will have a beer or some bourbon from time to time, it is always at home and I have no were to go. In my job, a DUI can make one unemployed for years, i simply can not afford it.
