I use AVG as well. The pay version offers an identity theft function that's not included in the free version.

Switched to avast this week. So far it's been pretty good. Offers real time protection.

AVG does make it run slower. try windows defender, it is free - and it works

Windows Defender is now Microsoft security Essentials. That's what my repair guy tells his customers. That and Malwarebytes. I used to have Bit Defender because it ws highly rated a few years ago. Have also used the free AVG and Avast. They all seem to work but MSE doesn't slow things down. I also bought Counter Spy for the ads. It works well. If you care, Springer also recommends MalwareBytes.

For Spam I highly recommend Spam Eater . It takes a few weeks to train it then it works rally well.
