New Carb

I was thinking of getting a new Mikuni Carb for the Dyna. Everyone keeps telling me that I have done everything there is to do except the carb. They all say a Mikuni will wake it a up a bunch. My question is this. Which one will work best for my 95", SE heads, S&S gear driven 37 g cams and Thunderheader. One person says the 42mm is not going to make a difference and everyone else say's that it's fine. Anyone running one on there bike? I know they have a 45mm and a 48 which I think is too much.

The 42 will do you just fine. I have a 45 on my 103 with much bigger cams and exhaust. The 45 is too big for your setup. You'll probably have to change the main jet one step up to start with.

I had a 42 on my 1200 Sporty, ran like a raped ape. Ya might want a bit more on a 96.

42 will work great. Pilot jet and needle selection/adjustment will make the difference. You wont be disapointed.

I'm running a 42 on my mostly stock FXSTS Evo. Can't complain a bit.

The 42 will be enough for a 95", may have to shave the head fins to clear the Carb body, won't have any cooling loss and no heat transfer to the Carb from the heads via contact with the fins.

Sent via FM (fookin' magic) it's all FM ain't it?

The 42 bolted right on my '03 FXDWG and I LOVED it. Very user friendly adjustments, including the accelerator pump. A sneeze-free carbed Harley. Who knew?

A 42 will handle his motor just fine. Had one on my 95 with more work done than Geno has. 45 will move too much air for his setup.

Thank all of you. I was hoping a 42 would do the trick. Going to see my Indy tuner today and order one. I could install my self if my back would allow. I get in much pain bending even with a lift table sometimes.

I recall Solex had a manual to figure out needed carb sizes, IIRC a built 1800 cc VW would be well served with a 36 - 38 mm carb. And then you had the guys who would throw on a set of dual webber 44's, cause bigger is better.

42 is the next addition to my bike but first they have to get the oil consumption under control.

Just got back from my Indy shop and ordered a new Mikuni 42. Ron is going to swap out the pilot jet and give me a couple new manifold seals. Total for everything $350. I think that's a good deal.
