Evo advice please

So a little while back i ordered an Andrews ev27 kit and now have my new replacement mounts from jenni at tri-County.
I'm lookin' at booking my bike in to a local indy here to install the cam and fit the mounts.
At this time, i have a rear base gasket weep, if i replace the base gaskests, since the engine will be apart anyways, would any of you guys recommend installing wiseco higher comp pistons?
Also i was quoted 3 hours labour for cam install, is that about ball park?

When changing a cam, most mechanics use bolt cutters to remove the stock push-rods, so they don't have to take apart the top end. The three hours you were quoted would most likely be: Drain oil, remove push-rods (with bolt cutters), pull out lifters, pull out old cam, insert new cam in correct possition, reinstall lifter, install and adjust new adjustable push-rods, new oil.

To replace the rear base gasket: Drop the engine, remove rocker covers, remove heads, remove pistons & cyinders. Change that base gasket, and put all those parts back together in the right order. That's going to be more than three hours. But if you wan't to put in higher comp pistons, now would be the time though. They might have to bore and hone the cylinders too.

So answer to the 1st ? Yes 3 hours is ball park.

I didn't say i was quoted 3 hours for cam and base gasket replacement...lol.

I was asking, while i may be in the process of doing said base gaskets, is it worth my while going for some higher comp pistons?

If so what are some recommendations?

I spoke to the Indy just now and i'm not filled with confidence. I asked him about changing the lifters and he said "Nah, they'll be right mate", c'mon they're 16 yrs old....ffs!!

Then i called another mob, get this, for a cam install....all parts inc...$1250! WTF????

I'm seriously thinking going down the DIY route.

3 hours is a little shy on a proper cam install. You need to get cam end play shims to properly set the end play of the cam. If this is not done,you will run the risk of having to much end play and the cams can come into contact with other parts in the cam chest resulting in---------you know,
Broken parts.
Find a quality indy and have the job done right,or do it yourself and pay attention to the details.
