Rangel, 80, appeared before the committee Thursday after walking out of a public trial this week. He said he had been "overzealous" in his effort to raise money for a non-profit college center to be named in his honor, but declared that he was "not corrupt."

Rangel, who once wielded enormous power as the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, was convicted Tuesday of 11 counts of breaking House rules by using his office to solicit millions of dollars in donations for the center from companies with business before his committee and housing a campaign office in a rent-stabilized New York apartment that had been set aside for residential use.

Associated Press article printed Wednesday in the Caper Star Tribune quotes the National Transportation Safety Board:

Quote:
There were 4,400 motorcycle deaths in the US last year, more than in all aviation, rail, marine, and pipeline accidents combined... Head injuries are the leading cause of death in motorcycle crashes.
Pipeline accidents? Ya think maybe this reporting is skewered?

Just for fun and games, I checked http://www-fars.nhtsa.dot.gov/Main/index.aspx and discovered there were 4,462 bike fatalities, 4,092 pedestrian fatalities, and 24,474 vehicle (non-bike) fatalities in 2009.

Obviously pedestrians should be required to wear helmets and people traveling in cars require full body armor.

"My fender came off and I noticed it before it hit the ground, and I caught it while I was riding so it wouldn't hit the ground....."

"I know there are no marks on the fender, but I think you should replace my rear tire (which was required when he picked up bike), the battery (also a requirement) AND a free dyno because my bike runs like crap" (which it did before it came in the shop).

"Oh, and I don't think I should have to pay for any of it"

"....we were driving on (insert road name here) when a log fell out of a tree, broke my back window, and hit "schmuck boy" in the back of the head....."

from a 19 year old oxycotin selling girl who was in the a fore mentioned car at 4:30 am this morning....

"....i told them i go to church, i ain't gonna lie to the cops..."

this was after a passenger in the car she was in was hit in the head by a baseball bat through the back window...
