Bleeding the clutch slave today, '15 Rushmore.

Was able to tilt the chrome trim cover off with a little finagling and it slipped off past the exhaust heat shield.

1/4 in end wrench is a bit too large for the bleeder nipple.

It's a 6 mm hex, now I have to go acquire a 6 mm end wrench for my collection.

But now, do I really need to go in search of one, being the deed is done?

Was able to open and close the bleeder with the box end of the 1/4 inch combo one.


Remember to pull the lever in all the way before removing the cover on the handlebar! Or brake fluid will pour out onto, stuff, like paint and chrome.

So, keep the lever squeezed while removing the cover?

Yes, I had that happen a year or two ago, when I was checking the level, took off cap and fluid went everywhere.

Panic ensued with rinsing everything off with copious amounts of water. I had "prepped", beforehand, by covering the tank and front fender with a couple of kitchen trash bags.

When you pull the lever "excess" goes to the slave.

I also bled the fluid at the slave a few strokes this time around, before removing the cap / cover.

What I did, was use a small Velcro© strap, I would "pull" the lever, strap it down, then go and crack the bleeder nipple, and close it as soon as it stopped flowing, (use a small hose that fits over the open end of the nipple and an empty water bottle to collect the bled fluid) then go release the lever exercise it a few times, you'll feel the effort of when it has filled the slave again, repeat about two three times. You should have a small puddle left on the bottom of the master reservoir.


Then with the reservoir "level" fill it to the edge of the "full" boss inside the left rear area of the reservoir. Install the cover, pump the lever a few times, secure the lever in full back against the grip and remove the cover and check for fullness.

So, bleed from the bottom up or the top down? I’ve heard different suggestions on which is better.

I just opened the bleeder nipple on the slave behind the cover, while the lever was "held" against the grip. It recovered pressure with one or two pulls on the lever.
