Royal Purple
Not sure if this has been discussed here, had a few minor discussions over the weekend. Has anyone used the Royal Purple 20w-50 in their bikes? Any difference or about the same? I've been running their product in my vehicles for a while now and have been happy with it, quieted valve train noise and such. Just wondering about it in a HD. Read the reviews and people reported cooler temps and and extra 10HP on the butt dyno, but was more curious about it in a real world, real trial type scenario.
Thank you kindly.

For the record...it's synthetic.

No oil is going to give you more HP, unless you're comparing sludge that would cause internal drag to a lightweight oil. I have no experience with RP, but I can say that with 50,000 miles worth of UOA in the BSL, two things struck me:
- I'll never use Amsoil again. - Use the proper amount of the proper viscosity oil, and change it every 5,000 miles. You'll never have an issue. The brand of oil is all but immaterial.

Fair enough. Though these days, I'm down to needing a change about once every 2 years rather than twice a year. Bikes are kept in a heated garage over the winter, so not too worried about collecting condensation or anything in the cold months.

Speaking of oil, my gauge didn't dance around at all on the way home.
Hopefully it was just a possible bad connection at the switch. I'll keep a close eye on it though.

In the Deluxe I used Mobil One V-Twin 20W-50 in the engine. Even the gear drive cams were a bit quieter. Changed it every 5,000 and never a hiccup. Used gear oil in the tranny and H-D Screaming Eagle Primary.

The only experience I had with Royal Purple is that it stinks.
I changed it once before a run to ES and probably over filled it a little. I normally use 3 1/2 quarts rather than the 4 quart suggested amount. That time I used the four quarts and all it took was the little extra work of running up and down hills and a lot of shifting and everybody behind me was treated to the odor of burning styrofoam until I changed it again. It ran good, no issues and I don't remember a big change in the noise or mileage but that was 50,000 miles ago.

I tried RP once, in my truck.
It didn't stay purple after the first few hundred miles! I was so dissapointed!
