There's not much I like better than ruining one of my kids' days by telling them that awesome "new" song they love came out 30 or 40 years ago.

I read an interview with the Coen brothers today and they said that the new version will actually be more true to the book than the original screenplay due to the violence that couldn't be included in a 1960's era movie and that the book was told entirely from the girls point of view 25 years later which they will also be doing. Of course, no John Wayne who pretty much made the original but it should be a pretty good movie!

I'm sure it will be pretty good, but I'll still be seeing the Duke in my mind's eye throughout the movie when I eventually see it.

Original True Grit won an oscar for Wayne, if memory serves (and it often doesn't). Something about it was different from the standard western but I can't quite put my finger on what.

Update: Just took the wife and daughter B out for dinner and True Grit.
I liked it a lot. I thought Mr. Bridges did a very good job in the role. I don't want to give anything away but Lucky Ned Pepper has something in common with this group. I give it a thumb and a half up!

Hell, he was a dumbass in the first one, too, so no surprise there...

Something other than that quality. He favors a certain type of leg protection.
