Sportster Redesign
What year was it that they redesigned the Sportster?
Was it 2005? I've been kicking around the idea of buying and XL 1200 so I have 2 horses in the stable. My bro is thinking of flying out here next year for Memorial Day - Rolling Thunder weekend. He could ride my WG and I could ride the XL. |

2004 went to rubber mounted motor, and bigger tank on customs. Calling a factory bike a custom, is a little??

883 have lower geared tranny, you will get more power out of a 883 bored to 1200 then, stock 1200. Something to think about. Plus you get the 883 cheaper. Insurance is probably better too.
90s sporties are damn cheap, though they are 10-15 year old bikes. So not really cheap. I been looking at Sportsters, I've never rode a rigid mount Harley, so I am not sure if I am to much of puss for one. |

I had an '01 XL1200 Sportster but traded it in when I got my Dyna WG.
I liked it, but don't miss it. Next one I get will have forward controls like my Dyna...more comfortable... ...of course, I haven't informed the OL of the plan of another bike... |

You have a Dyna. You need a bagger, not a Sporty.

I got a chance to look closely at one, at the dealer's. It is really special. It looks a breed apart from a standard Sporty. It appears to be very serious, indeed. If I were younger, it would be high on my list.
That said, there are a bunch of used Sportys out there with low miles. When Marc built his bobber he used a '03 anniversary 1200 with 2,000 miles on it, and paid $5,000 for it.

2004 was a change from 2003 then it changed again in 2005 so avoid 2004 out of consideration for parts.
