Dial up Phone Modem
Some of us still have a need for phone line modems. So we can get on line and send faxes. Geeze, they say it won't fit in the laptop with the new wireless modems. My old laptop with a built in dial up and wireless modems fits inside the laptop body OK. Did the new wireless get so much larger they don't have the room for the dial up modem. Heck I have an old PMCI card that is a dial up modem.
You'd a thunk the built in one would be even smaller.

Ain't technology great? I remember when I felt smarter than the computer.

Have you considered moving to a civilized area?

Modem's are getting to be a specialty item. Probably have to get a USB one since you'd have an easier time finding a laptop with a modem built-in than a serial port to connect an external modem like the old US Robotics Courier modem that I used to use back in the day.
Have you looked into one of those email to fax services? |

There's something missing from this story. In Feb this year, my Vista Toshiba and my wife's XP Compaq, both laptops, migrated from dial-up to wired and wireless DSL with no changes to the laptops.
Unless you're buying one of those new minis, I think someone's either misinformed or lying to you. Maybe another brand? Or size? Or a plug-in modem, as I think someone suggested. joe

If you have a PCMCIA slot in the new laptop, you should be able to slide the old modem card into it and use it with out the new wireless adapters.
