New Lifters

Should you clean off the excess packing slime they come in before basting them in some engine oil prior to installing them?

Give 'em a wipe with a clean rag, oil 'em up and you're good to go.

If you want them to make little or no noise then clean up the packing crud, oil the roller so it turns free and get an oil gun and fill them with oil by squirting oil in the side hole until all the bubbles stop coming out the top.
A lot say this last step is not necessary, but it sure makes it sound a lot better when you push that starter button.
