What oil cooler is everyone using? I have found a couple I like, but looking for something that has looks as well as functionality. Looks being secondary. Just tryin to get ready for Summer...
Thanks.

I am using the HD touring cooler on my Road Glide.
Seems like that was actually a fairly decent deal if I remember correctly.

I believe I have the same one. Touring Oil Cooler Kit P/N 62895-03A.
I believe it has been superceded by the new "Turbulator" premium oil cooler. Highmiles

I get distracted by your avatar....sheesh!
I have been looking at the HD ones. I like the low mount idea other than the vulerability they have when considering rocks and the like. To go low mount though, I would have to use a Jagg...

An inexpensive option is, go to the junkyard and buy a condenser coil from a car's AC...spray it black and mount it.

I have the H-D. It mounts low, but so far have had no problems with rocks on my EG or my Heritage. They seem to be pretty tough. |

I noticed you did not deny it. But the "rat" part was cold. From the pictures you post of that old shovel, it was not a rat bike but it would have had a good start with an oil cooler like that on it.

The HD cooler - used to be made by Jagg - and I believe it still is. I can't see the sense of mounting an oil cooler down where it can get damaged and so, went with Jagg and mounted it to the left down tube. I check the oil lines at each oil change - and no probs.

Now the next question, where is the best place to buy Jagg coolers? Looking best price wise....

Frank,
No probs. Forgot to add that I called Jagg and spoke with the plant manager - or something. Identified himself as the HMFIC - friendly guy, knowledgeable, great to deal with. Cost didn't seem to be out of line with other outlets iirc. Note that you can go with a manual by-pass valve, an automatic thermostat, or no valve or thermostat. FWIW - I went with the latter and use a cover over the cooler on cool days. Think I got the cover from Drag Specialties. It's vinyl and fastens on with velcro. IMHO an automatic thermostat is just another thing to fail and a manual valve is just another potential source of leaks. At the time I bought mine, Russell was coming out with a set of braided stainless lines for Jagg coolers too. Think they even make them in black. FWIW - I stuck with rubber hose. No probs after three years. I liked dealing with the guy at Jagg because I just like dealing with the source on things. The guy I dealt with was friendly, knew his stuff and told me about working with Russell to come out with the lines. Later, when I overtightened one of the mounts, I called the guy to see about getting a replacement - and he sent me a set for free. Good company, good product IMO.

Frank,
The adaptor comes with the cooler. There's been an upgrade to it that keeps the adaptor from rotating when you change the filter. Mine is the old one and I have a retro-fit part for it. IIRC, it was a tight fit between the frame and the filter - and you'll want to be sure you have enough room for a filter wrench and in my case, enough room so that the oil filter and adapter weren't hitting the frame at any RPMs - my FXD is rubber mounted. I mocked mine up to be equidistant from the frame tubes and made sure I could access the filter with a wrench before buttoning it up. As for the cover - it's here: http://www.dragspecialties.com/fatbo...cooler%20cover
