That Time of Year....
Don’t truly need them but it makes Auto feel better on winter roads and I have to admit they destroy that early morning black ice....

I can tell you, from first hand experience, a tire for a Ford cruiser takes 112 studs each.
A stud gun will leave a blister on the web between your thumb and pointer finger. I always wore rappelling gloves after the first time that happened. http://www.brunowessel.com/stud_equipment.asp

Yes, end of April in Commieforina.
And they have less traction on "dry" pavement while braking hard. Because metal slides on pavement and rubber grips on dry pavement. Many a new to the mountains trooper didn't believe me about studs until their first time through a hard corner on dry pavement, then the cruiser lost traction.

no studs, but just put a new set of Cooper WeatherMasters on Wifes AWD Equinox...similar tread to yours...
not making that tread pattern anymore...going to directional, which limits tire rotation... so I should be good for a couple winters...

Stranger yet is the twice yearly ritual of changing the storm windows for screens and back again.
A regional custom I don't miss up here is the "check for ticks before bed" ritual.
