The 4-hour wait & bake in the Pentagon parking lot is not the greatest, but with a little planning ahead (cooler of gatorade was ), its bearable. Every year I say I'm going to bring a lite-weight tarp & riggings for a quik-setup shelter/shade & every year I forget.
There is shade to find across the bridge to the marine (plus food & drinks).
I'm hoping a few of my AF buddies come up next year.

In eleven year, I think I've done 7-8 RTs. My 8 yo daughter likes to go - this was her second year.
Funny thing-we were riding in the parade & she's waving to everyone & having fun. At one point, I tell her, "Make sure you are holding on good." She said, "Dad! I've done this befopre, ya know!"
I didn't know she was an expert at riding in parades.
