Turn off the scrolling on the touch pad and turn off the tap to click feature while you are there to prevent the palm of your hand from moving the cursor around on the page. The ribbon cables fray with age and use, not much can be done to prevent it. They weren't built to last forever, if they were, you wouldn't be able to afford them. If you get past 3 years of use on the hardware, you got your money out of it.
