Low Touring bikes
Has anyone sampled one of these yet? I wandered over to the dealership today and they had a 2015 model Limited Low with 8 miles on it sitting there. When I sat on it in my work clothes, not my riding boots, I found that I could very comfortably flatfoot it and still had a bit of bend to my knees. I was wondering if the ride height made the ride of the bike suffer or not.

Low Touring bikes
IIRC, the Low models are 1" lower front and rear, have a lower seat, a hydraulic clutch, and a narrow primary. The narrow primary is standard on the '16s.
I know a guy locally who has one, and he rides it all over the place without complaint.

I don't get why the narrow primary?
Narrower primary chain? And I guess the "Low" guys have no need for heated grips? Why? Does this make the package lower in price that a "standard" Limited? So basically, besides Street Glide height rear shocks, 1 inch lower that "stock" touring, they have also lowered the forks by an inch?

If I recall correctly, the narrowing of the primary had to do with lean angle on the lowered bike.

Oh, OK...
I get that. Or doesn't the floor board hit first? Or maybe this allows the floorboard to be closer to CL allowing for the better lean? My 2011 EGC and now my '15 Limited, both drag the left board instead of the right board like on my '06 RG which always drug the right one first, very seldom the left without "trying" harder... But you really have to work at it.

Is the clutch basket narrower too?

My understanding is that the "narrower" was to give short legs a more direct round to the ground. Being well below 6' in stature I contemplated the low but opted for the standard. It is a bit more difficult for me to maneuver the bike when I'm stopped but so far I've made it work.

Yup, the narrow primary is so that there's a shorter reach to the ground.

I already had my 14' limited when the Low's came out ..... being 5'9" there are times when it's a challenge to manuvere the bike in parking lots, uphill, side hill, etc .... but I'm able to make it work
I sat on the low, really liked the comfort of that height ... but imo lean angle was going to suffer at high speed twisty riding ... same thing that I experience on the Orange Crush which is a LOWERED frame .. lots of stuff that drags the ground ... I SO MUCH MORE enjoy the ground clearance on my std 14' limited !!! I can ride it harder and faster than the Orange Crush ...... = Fun Factor mutiplication WHOOOOOOT Also there is a diff in where the passenger footpegs are and some of the 'looks' which I didn't care for either ... and for me the passenger footpeg position was/is a key factor since Jan rides with me from time to time .......

Have you looked into the seat(s) that lowers the rider closer to the ground?
They had something like that set up as a demo sit at Rodgers HD back in I think 2014 ES? I seem to recall that was the year that someone bought a trike due to NBF...

On mine, the kickstand drags, rather than the board or the primary. Right side board for sure, but not the left.
Well, at least not yet. And btw: the '17s are maybe five days from introduction. I think I'd hold off to see them.... At least to get the discounts on the '16 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
