William "Bill" Edwards
I have just received word that a very good friend of mine Bill Edwards had taken his own life. Bill worked with me in San Antone, he was Chief of the Retirement Branch and was the architect of the Air Force Retirement and 401(k) Plans for Air Force NAF employees. He retired in Dec and I guess the being alone constantly got the best of him. My family and I will truly miss this gentle giant of a man. Bill was born in Mississippi but considered himself more Cajun than anything….graduated from LSU and made just about the best Jambalaya I have ever had. We used to go Striper and Trout fishing a lot…and it didn’t matter if we caught or not..as he put it…”The true joy of fishing is the company”
He loved Americana and Delta Blues music, and whenever we would visit I would sit and play Prine tunes for him. He also turned me on to Robert Johnson and he was the one that came up with the first “Trail of the Hell Hound Tour” which Darla and I went on with him. A wonderful week of blues and Bill’s down home humor…it was magical. He was also the only person that could talk me into going to Thibodaux LA on the Sat before Katrina hit to pick up a flat-bottom boat that had been handmade by a master pirogue builder….man that was a very nervous couple of days. My prayers sent up for his young son Travis and family. Rest Now My Friend………….You will be missed PS: Folks if it this life ever get's too hard or meaningless...please....please call and talk with someone. I love you all, Al
